In most cases, “cannabis” and “cannabis” are used interchangeably to refer to the same thing. “Cannabis” is a broader term that encompasses all products derived from the cannabis plant. “Cannabis” on the other hand refers specifically to products made from the dried flowers, leaves, stems and seeds of the cannabis plant.
Laws regarding marijuana, such as possession, purchase, sale, and production, are complex and frequently changing.
How is marijuana consumed?
While marijuana is commonly rolled and smoked like cigarettes or cigars, or incorporated into edible items such as cookies or brownies, it can also be brewed into tea or added to various beverages. Additionally, some users opt to “vape” marijuana, inhaling vaporized dry marijuana through a vaporizer or vaping device.
How much THC does marijuana contain?
Marijuana usually has lower levels of THC compared to other cannabis products like hemp and hemp oil. On average, the strength of THC in dried cannabis falls between 15% and 30%.
Difference between marijuana and hemp
Hemp comes from the cannabis sativa plant. The big thing that sets hemp apart from other types of cannabis, like marijuana, is that it has very little THC – less than 0.3%. That’s why hemp isn’t typically used to get high. Instead, it’s grown for its fibers and seeds, mostly for stuff like making paper or clothes. People even use it in food sometimes.
Difference between “marijuana” and “marihuana”
The term ‘marihuana’ is believed to have originated from Spanish spoken in Mexico back in the early 1900s. It then made its way into English. But as time went on, ‘marijuana’ became the more popular spelling.
Health Canada used ‘marihuana’ because they saw it as the legal and traditional spelling, up until 2014 when they introduced the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations. When cannabis was legalized in Canada, those rules got scrapped and replaced by the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR). But even now, you’ll find both spellings used on different government websites related to cannabis.
